Front Porch To Intro Latest Version of DIVAsolo at NAB

Front Porch Digital will introduce DIVAsolo V.4, which incorporates full integration with the world’s most popular NLE systems, at the 2010 NAB Show. Front Porch Digital’s DIVAsolo is a first-of-its-kind turnkey migration, content storage management (CSM), and media asset management (MAM) solution.

The DIVAsolo system combines a SAMMA Solo encoding appliance with the company’s flagship DIVArchive CSM solution and its DIVAdirector MAM. Besides adding Apple Final Cut and Avid Interplay integration, the new DIVAsolo V.4 features direct VTR control, automatic shot-list generation, key-frame extraction, dynamic metadata collection, full desktop Web browser access to all migrated assets, and an LTO-based data tape robotic system to store and protect all migrated assets.

DIVAsolo V.4 also incorporates the new features in DIVAdirector V4.1, the latest version of the company’s easy-to-use MAM product: a simplified browser interface, support for identification and retrieval of clips with noncontiguous timecode, partial-restore format auto-detection, and enhanced and simplified management of remote proxies.

“Videotape deteriorates, and playback devices become obsolete. These two facts mean any entity with a media library stored on videotape must act or expect that content to be unusable,” says Mike Knaisch, Front Porch Digital president and CEO. “DIVAsolo V.4 is the only all-in-one system that performs accelerated transfer of media content from vulnerable videotape to secure, managed digital storage for manipulation, preservation, and repurposing. The features we’ve added in DIVAsolo V.4 make the semi-automatic migration process easier than ever besides making newly digitized content more readily available for repurposing.”

Technicolor Integrates Front Porch Digital SAMMA Robot into Library Management Solution

In other Front Porch Digital news, media management and distribution company, Technicolor, has purchased a Front Porch Digital SAMMA RobotV.4 for its library services initiative. Technicolor offers a streamlined, single-source supply chain of services where content is converted to digital files, then managed and kept secure and accessible 24/7/365 for its customers. Digitizing the content not only rescues it from videotape’s inevitable deterioration, it also enables Technicolor to store and make the content readily available for repurposing on both new and traditional distribution platforms.

“Front Porch Digital’s SAMMA Robot is fundamental to our library services initiative,” says Chuck Parker, president of Technicolor’s Digital Content Delivery business. “We worked hard to find the best partner, and are pleased to be working with Front Porch Digital. While we have invested a great deal of our own R&D in this project and in other parts of the media management value chain, when it comes to digitizing content, Front Porch Digital has the proven technology that fulfilled a component of the overall workflow.”

Front Porch Digital’s SAMMA Robot is an automated videotape-based robotic system that performs real-time migration of up to 1,000 hours of content per week. The system, which can operate unattended around the clock, simultaneously ingests and encodes content stored on either U-Matic or Betacam tapes into multiple digital formats. The digitized recordings include not only the content itself but also metadata describing the content’s condition.

“Technicolor is a trusted name in the media industry and the company is among the first to recognize not only the business benefits but also the importance of preserving invaluable media content,” says Mike Knaisch, president and CEO of Front Porch Digital. “With its heritage and expertise, Technicolor is positioned to deliver top-quality library services to its customers and we are glad to be contributing a key technology component.”

The SAMMA Robot V.4 has been enhanced to accommodate automatic handling of mixed-size (large/small) and mixed-standard (PAL/NTSC) videotape cassettes and associate migration profiles on an individual or group videotape basis during the preparation process, and include an updated user interface with additional robotic system status messaging and support for DVCam and DVCPro tape formats.
