P2 a Slam Dunk for WNBA, D-League; Univision To Use Format for FIFA World Cup

The WNBA and NBA Development League (NBA D-League), the National Basketball Association’s official minor league, will use Panasonic’s AG HPX300 P2 HD shoulder-mount camcorders to provide fans with access to a full season of live games online in high-definition on WNBA.com and NBA.com/dleague.

Beginning with the WNBA season, which tips off May 15, each WNBA team will use three P2 HD camcorders.  The NBA D-League teams will begin using the cameras at the start of the 2010-11season. The camcorders will be used courtside, one in a fixed play-by-play position, and two by handheld operators under the baskets.

The deal with the WNBA and D-League wasn’t the only sports related deal that Panasonic made public at NAB. Univision Communications, the leading Spanish-language media company in the U.S., is making a multi-year commitment to P2 HD equipment. in the form of P2 HD shoulder-mount camcorders with AVC-Intra recording, AJ-HPM200 P2 mobile recorder/players, AG-HPG20 portable recorders, AG-HPG10 P2 gear portable recorders and (upon availability) the new AG-MSU10 P2 media storage units.

As the exclusive Spanish-language broadcaster of FIFA World Cup Soccer Univision will use AJ-HPX3000 P2 HD camcorders to broadcast the month-long competition. The World Cup will be held in South Africa starting June 11.

Univision is adopting P2 HD throughout their operations for field production and newsgathering at the local and national level. In addition, Univision will use P2 HD for some of its major events coverage.
