NBC To Air U.S. Open in Primetime

NBC will look to capitalize on the Masters’ ratings momentum, positioning June’s U.S. Open in primetime. Following CBS’s 12.0 household rating for the Masters (the third-largest golf audience ever), NBC will air coverage from Pebble Beach on Saturday 4:30-11 p.m. ET and on Sunday 3-9 p.m. on Sunday.

The presence of Tiger Woods, who turned in the necessary paperwork to compete at the U.S. Open but has yet to officially announce his participation, is sure to drive ratings after returning from a scandalous five-month hiatus at the Masters. NBC aired the U.S. Open in primetime in 2008 and drew record ratings when Woods finished tied for first an won a playoff the following day on an injured kneed that required surgery just days later.
