Spectra Logic Unveils 120-TB nTier700 Storage Platform
Spectra Logic has announced the availability of the 120 terabyte (TB) Spectra nTier700 disk appliance, featuring the addition of 2TB drives. Customers can now achieve 120TB of storage and have 16 gigabytes (GB) of memory available to backup and archive applications that run locally on the 4U nTier700, for as low as $1 per GB.
“With the new high capacity 2TB drives, the nTier700 platform provides an extremely scalable, high-density backup and archive solution – at a significantly reduced cost per gigabyte,” says Molly Rector, VP of marketing and product management for Spectra Logic. “In addition, Spectra’s nTier disc appliances are the only integrated disk and application platforms that offer direct integration with tape for long term backup and storage.”
The nTier700 can be configured with up to six storage blades, each containing 10 drives. Blades can be easily added to the nTier700 appliance as capacity requirements increase, and can be configured with 1TB or 2TB drives to grow in 10TB or 20TB increments, for a maximum capacity of 120TB in a single 4U chassis. The integrated application server can be utilized to host backup and archive applications, acting as the media server, to offer a complete application media server along with cost effective, high-density disk storage in a single appliance.
The nTier700 is compatible with all major archive and backup software applications including but not limited to: BakBone NetVault, CA ArcServe and BrightStor, CommVault Simpana, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, Legato Networker, QStar Archive Management, Symantec Backup Exec and NetBackup, Syncsort Backup Express and XenData Digital Archive.
The Spectra nTier700 with 2TB drives is currently available and offers “plug and play” upgrading with no additional licensing or software required. Additional memory can be purchased as an option to support ISV-based deduplication functionality.
