All-Star Weekend Fraught with Sony’s 3D Technology

This week’s 3D All-Star weekend had Sony written all over it, as the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game were shot and broadcast in 3D, and once again Sony HD technology was on the scene.

NEP Productions’ new SS32 3D Mobile Production truck made its debut at the festivities in Anaheim, CA, using Sony HDC-1500Rs (three pairs) and HDC-P1s (six pairs) cameras in Pace/Fusion camera rigs. The truck also features Sony’s new MVS-8000X native single link 3G production switcher, which has integrated 3D production tools and effects capability for 3D multi camera productions.  The MVS-8000X can be configured with up to 200 inputs, 100 outputs and 5MEs while operating in 1080/60P.

“We’re continually applying the lessons we’ve learned to each new 3D event we’re involved with,” says Rob Willox, director of 3D Business Development for Sony Electronics.  “Baseball  is one of the sports that will be a unique proving ground for 3D technology, as it provides the opportunity to give the viewers at home very different perspective on the game, from behind the
plate or from centerfield looking in to the action.”
