SVG’s SAM 2010 Forum Delves Into Latest Storage, Distribution Advances

More than 150 sports-technology professionals gathered at the PGA Tour Entertainment facility in St. Augustine, FL, on Wednesday for SVG’s fourth-annual Sports Asset Management forum. Leading experts discussed the latest sports-asset–management technologies and developments during the one-day event and hit the legendary TPC Sawgrass course during a golf outing the following day.

The event was sponsored by Sony, Avid, Grass Valley, Bexel, CBT Systems, NetApp, Diversified Systems, SOS Global Express, and TATA Communications. Bexel also parked a 3D-viewing truck at the Renaissance Resort in the World of Golf Village, where the sessions took place, offering attendees a look at some of the latest in 3D technology and content.

The day began with an exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the PGA Tour Entertainment production facility at the World of Golf Village and its brand-new asset-management system. The tour was followed by a variety of sessions throughout the day that examined the latest asset-management accomplishments within the sports industry and took a look at what is on the horizon.

The program included two case studies that provided a look at NASCAR Digital Media’s new state-of-the-art facility in Charlotte, NC, and EVS’s ultra-complex FIFAMAX system, which handled all Host Broadcast Services’ content-exchange needs during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

In addition, the five panels dealt with the need for cooperation between IT and broadcast-engineering staffs; Ingest, logging, and near-line storage systems; online-content protection; and the latest technology innovations for both asset-management systems and long-term storage solutions.
