New Daktronics Displays Kickoff College Football Season Across U.S.

This year, several college football stadiums have installed new Daktronics integrated scoring and display systems.

The recently completed renovation of the University of Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium included the addition of four new Daktronics HD-X corner end zone video boards (shown above) and two new digital ribbon boards. Each of the four new video displays in the 101,000+ capacity stadium measures approximately 21 feet high by 52 feet wide.

Another of this season’s largest new systems is at Indiana University’s Memorial Stadium, where more than 52,000 fans will enjoy live action and video replays in 4.4 trillion colors on a giant 36 foot high by 90 foot wide HD screen. “The new scoreboard will enhance every aspect of the game day experience,” says Fred Glass, VP and Director of Athletics. “It will be a major part of the big time atmosphere we are creating at venues throughout campus.”

University of Louisville football has also installed additional Daktronics displays at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium (PJCS) this college football season, thanks to significant upgrades at the venue. Highlighting the new displays is a large LED (light emitting diode) video display located over the south endzone. Measuring approximately 20 feet high by 60 feet wide, the new display matches the existing Daktronics video board in the north endzone. Daktronics digital ribbon board technology was also added. Each display measures nearly 340 feet wide and is capable of showing game information and real-time team and player statistics, animations and cropped video clips. The integrated system continues outside the stadium with a video display installed on the backside of the south endzone display informing approaching fans. A double-sided full-color marquee display also informs passers-by on Central Avenue of upcoming events.

Lamar University begins its program anew after a 20-year hiatus from the sport. “The Daktronics equipment will enhance our football operations, enhance our game day experience, and put us up there with top universities when it comes to our facilities,” says Jason Henderson, Associate Athletic Director at Lamar. “The new board is approximately 48 feet high and 88 feet wide, with a large LED video display positioned in the middle of the configuration.

Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo., is another school ready to kick off the season with a new integrated system in a newly renovated facility. Adams State chose Daktronics to design and build a system that incorporates a traditional scoreboard, LED video display and Sportsound sound system. “The fan experience at the new stadium will be completely enhanced by this new system,” says Athletic Director Larry Mortensen. “Both the college football team and area high school teams will appreciate and enjoy the facility.”
