Sensio, Teranex Make 3D Delivery Possible From Traditional Broadcast Plants

Equipment manufacturers continue to gear up for the potential of 3D to develop into a mature market. The latest? Teranex Systems and SENSIO Technologies, with SENSIO adding its patented 3D frame-compatible stereoscopic compression technology to Teranex’s VC1-3D-ENC and VC1-3D-DEC 3D encoding and decoding applications. The added capability will enable delivery of 3D programming over an existing broadcasting infrastructure.

“Adding SENSIO 3D technology to our VC100’s 3D encoding and decoding applications ensures the highest fidelity to the original 3D image all the way down the distribution line,” says Mike Poirier, General Manager of Teranex. “We wanted to offer our customers a professional-grade proven solution to deliver a truly immersive 3D experience to the home. Teranex’s VC100 dual-channel architecture is uniquely suited to 3D, and combining our patented technology with SENSIO’s enables our customers to broadcast premium-quality 3D content over an existing 1.485 Gb/s infrastructure.”

“We are very happy to see our collaboration with Teranex come to fruition,” adds Richard LaBerge, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at SENSIO. “The integration of SENSIO 3D in yet another piece of top-quality broadcasting equipment ensures continued excellence in image quality while enabling the best use of bandwidth. These conditions must be met for broadcasters to be able to confidently move into the 3D era.”
