Spike TV Utilizes Orad’s RealSet Virtual Augmentation at Video Game Awards

Orad’s RealSet virtual augmentation solution was deployed extensively at Spike TV’s Video Game Awards.  The RealSet solution enabled Spike TV to integrate in real time 3D virtual objects and animations to precise locations anywhere on the stage.

Host Neil Patrick Harris shared the stage with characters and scenery from winners and nominees throughout the evening. Featured characters and scenes utilizing Virtual Augmentation included “Batman: Arkham City,”  “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” “Red Dead Redemption” and “God of War III,” along with a number of virtual elements to enhance the House Look.

“Using the Orad Augmented Reality package enabled us to deliver our key creative,” says Hamish Hamilton, Executive Producer and Director, Spike TV “Video Game Awards. Our desire was to bring video game reality and award show reality into the same TV frame and to do it fully LIVE. This was truly ground breaking and I do believe it will have massive repercussions for the live award show genre. I for one have been totally converted.”

Orad provided a 125-foot tracked rail camera at eye-level and a 24-foot sensorized crane, delivering vivid virtual augmentation for the live stage show held in Los Angeles. FX-Motion from Belgium, an Orad technology partner, provided advanced camera encoding technology, and much of the graphics work was coordinated through Full Mental Jacket, another Orad partner. The Orad RealSet technology package enabled production company Done and Dusted and Hamilton to seamlessly incorporate virtual objects into the live show.
