NAB 2011: Aspera’s Fasp Technology Speeds File Transfer

California developer Aspera’s fasp transfer technology eliminates the fundamental bottlenecks of conventional file-transfer technologies — FTP, HTTP, Windows CIFS — and dramatically speeds transfers over public and private IP networks. Users have control over individual transfer rates, bandwidth sharing, and full visibility into bandwidth utilisation, while file-transfer times can be guaranteed, regardless of the distance of the endpoints or the dynamic conditions of the network, including even transfers over satellite, wireless, and inherently long-distance and unreliable international links. Security is built in, including secure endpoint authentication, on-the-fly data encryption, and integrity verification.

The latest, v1.7 release supplies some major new functionality within Aspera Enterprise Server, Connect Server, Point-to-Point, Client, and the SDK and addresses some key customer requirements. Highlights include significant advances within the fasp transport for virtual-machine environments, massive data-set sizes, and unusual networks; new command-line options for large-scale automation; new SDK capabilities for easy, scalable monitoring of transfer endpoints within third-party applications; many new server and client capabilities for robust configuration, automation, and management; and significant enhancements and bug fixes for maximum security.
