Vizrt Displays Stereo 3D Imagery Using Christie Mirage Projector and Volfoni 3D Glasses

Stereoscopic 3d was very interesting to broadcasters at last year’s NAB Show, but, this year, it has taken hold with the launch of many 3DTV networks as well as sports and news telecasts produced in stereo 3D. With millions of 3DTV sets selling annually worldwide, 3DTV is an unmistakable trend for broadcasters. At the NAB Show this week, Vizrt is offering a state-of-the-art stereo 3D presentation at Booth SL5408.

“This presentation is designed to immerse our visitors in a true, real-time stereoscopic-3D experience combining rich stereo-3D imagery with the latest in stereo-3D display technology,” said Gerhard Lang, Vizrt’s chief engineering officer. “To underscore Vizrt’s position as a global leader in stereo-3D digital production tools and workflow, the video will be an exciting sampler of sports and news programs and graphics produced by our customers with our stereo-3D technology. With the help of our partners, Christie and Volfoni, we’re confident that the quality of this stereo 3D presentation will be unsurpassed.”

The stereo-3D presentation is displayed from a new Christie Mirage HD10K-M high-performance, three-chip DLP projector designed specifically for staging live 3D events.

For Vizrt’s first collaboration with Volfoni, the stereo-3D display setup features advanced stereo-3D glasses from the worldwide supplier of stereo 3D eyewear. Two product lines are on exhibit: EDGE, active glasses dedicated to cinema and audiovisual markets, and ActivEyes, its new hybrid active/passive eyewear compatible with 3DTV sets and PC monitors. The EDGE 3D glasses are being used in the Vizrt booth; the ActivEyes eyewear are on display at the Volfoni booth (C11839).

“We’re extremely pleased to be part of this high-profile stereo-3D presentation showcasing the latest advancements in stereo-3D display,” said Volfoni CEO Thierry Henkinet. “This partnership with Vizrt and Christie positions us at the forefront of stereo-3D display.” Volfoni recently opened a Los Angeles office to build a stronger U.S. presence for its products.

Part of the new Christie Mirage Series 3D DLP projector line, the Mirage HD10K-M projector offers 1920×1080 widescreen HD resolution, 10,500 ANSI lumens of brightness, up to a full 120 Hz native frame rate, and embedded Christie Twist image warping and edge blending for superior 3D picture quality. Two Christie HD8K projectors were used by Vizrt for last year’s stereo-3D presentation at the NAB Show, but, this year, a Christie HD8K projector is being used as a secondary projector supplementing the stereo-3D imagery shown by the Mirage.

“Since the stereo-3D graphics and video imagery that Vizrt customers produce is quite impressive, this presentation is a wonderful showcase for the capabilities of our new Mirage HD10K-M projector,” said Gary Fuller, vice president, Business Products, Christie. “With best-in-class technology from Vizrt, Christie, and Volfoni, we’re confident that this breathtaking NAB presentation will boost interest and demand for stereo 3DTV.”
