World Taekwondo Federation expands deal with Dartfish

The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) has expanded its use of Dartfish technologies by selecting Dartfish.TV to enable athletes, coaches, clubs and fans to view specific competitions and event highlights at the 2011 World Taekwondo championship held in Gyeongju, Korea. Using Dartfish video solutions, WTF was able to upload more than 700 videos of the competition fights.

Despite the worldwide popularity of Taekwondo, mainstream television networks do not provide in-depth coverage of Taekwondo championships and limit the broadcasting to matches during semi-finals and finals. To satisfy the demand for comprehensive coverage, WTF turned to Dartfish to develop a solution that would enable Taekwondo fans to view championships in real-time. Through this partnership, WTF and Dartfish have created a video platform that integrates instant video replay with web TV and enables users to post videos to the web. As a result, viewers can access unlimited matches, search for specific videos and segments, comment, embed and share videos on websites. Also, coaches can download these videos and archive them for performance review.

“Before we partnered with Dartfish, we could not reach out to the international Taekwondo community,” says Kyunghee Park, communications manager, WTF. “Dartfish has a comprehensive solution that covers every step – from large volume content creation to final publication. Our fans can now generate more content, upload it easily, navigate through thousands of videos on the Taekwondo Channel on Dartfish.TV.

“We have been working with WTF since 2008 to help make Taekwondo a mainstream sport,” says Victor Bergonzoli, Dartfish’s chief executive officer. “During the 2009 WTF World Taekwondo Championships, WTF was able to attract 300,000 visitors and record one million video streamings using Dartfish solutions and the trend has only been upwards. The WTF Dartfish TV channel currently has more than 8,000 videos.”
