Nick Johnson To Oversee Sales for the NBC Sports Group Digital Portfolio

Nick Johnson, Senior Vice President, Digital Sales for NBCUniversal, is taking on a new role overseeing sales efforts for the NBC Sports Group digital portfolio. He will continue to report directly to Peter Naylor, EVP, Digital Media Sales, NBCUniversal, and will also dotted line report into Seth Winter, SVP, Sports & Olympics Sales, NBCUniversal. Johnson’s new role is effective immediately.

In this newly created position, Johnson will work with the current sales teams to develop and execute the optimal go-to-market strategy for the NBC Sports Group’s digital properties, comprised of NBCSports.com, NBCOlympics.com, GolfChannel.com, and NHL.com.

“Nick has been a driving force in our digital sales organization and a key component to our success,” said Naylor. “He truly understands the digital world and how best to use our assets to deliver results for our clients. I know he’ll bring that same approach and leadership to our digital sports team.”

Winter added, “Nick’s passion for sports, knowledge of our diverse digital content and platforms, and ability to work within complex multi-sport media sponsorships makes him the perfect leader for our expanding portfolio.”

Previously, Johnson oversaw sales efforts for the NBCUniversal digital media portfolio, including NBC.com, NBCSports.com, AccessHollywood.com, and the websites of the company’s various cable networks. He also ran the Universal Audience Platform, a “first party” advertising network launched by NBCUniversal in 2010, that he was instrumental in creating.

He joined NBCUniversal in February 2007 as Vice President Digital Media Sales and was promoted in 2010 to Senior Vice President on the heels of three years of dramatic revenue growth overseeing the national sales force. During that time he also helped drive significant organizational change by pivoting the digital sales team out of individual-site silos into an agency-focused consultative sales group focused on selling across the multiple digital media assets.

Prior to NBCUniversal, Johnson spent 15 years focused on the digital space in a variety of sales leadership roles at places like Reuters, Revenue Science, and CNNSI.com. Before joining the digital revolution, Johnson spent seven years on the agency side of the business in New York and Tokyo.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania and resides in Madison, NJ, with his wife and three children.
