ViewCast Helps PrepSpin Broadcast High School Sports Worldwide

PrepSpin, the Kentucky-based sports broadcasting company, is successfully using the ViewCast Osprey 460e video capture cards and Niagara 2100 and Niagara 4100 streaming media systems to broadcast youth, middle school, high school, and other sporting events throughout the state.

“Since starting PrepSpin in January 2010, we have broadcast over 700 live and on-demand sporting events. We have also tested every video card imaginable, so we know firsthand that ViewCast products work perfectly,” said William Warfield, founder of PrepSpin. “We haven’t encountered any audio sync or video buffering issues with the Osprey 460e video capture cards. In fact, the video quality is so good that we are now able to broadcast to local TV channels. This has opened a whole new market for us, and we couldn’t be happier.”

John Hammock, President and Chief Operating Officer of ViewCast said, “We believe that the high school market is going to explode over the next couple of years. Hundreds of games are now webcast each week and thousands of high schools are also now webcasting educational TV programs and teacher-produced content.  We believe that most high schools will be equipping themselves for streaming capabilities within the coming decade.  Our Osprey, Niagara and VMp solutions are ideal for sports applications and we stand ready to serve broadcasters like PrepSpin that are looking to set up low-cost, single-operator, easy-to-use systems for sideline reporting and delivering the stream via the web in multiple formats.”

Warfield added, “In addition to the Osprey cards, we have used the Niagara 2100 streaming media appliance to stream college baseball games through its remote interface. It was easy, and we were able to stream a live video feed of a game online without even being at the game. The Niagara units do more than just streaming. We have used them recently to record several versions of the same broadcast for upload. We can record a web version when internet access is not available at the high school games, and a higher quality version to make a DVD of the game. Try doing that with just a computer. It’s easy for us to upload the web version in a matter of minutes and also transfer the high-quality version for file burning on a DVD through the sharing folder feature on the Niagara unit. ViewCast’s Niagara systems are a must have for anyone serious about this business.”

PrepSpin plans to use ViewCast’s Osprey 460e and Niagara 2100 and will soon introduce the high-definition capabilities of the Niagara 4100 system to stream upcoming events, including the popular Kentucky Basketball Showcase (and pre-season event); the “Clash at Cameron” High School Basketball Showcase in Durham, NC; various roller derbies; Professional Indy Circuit Wrestling; and any one of over 200 high school athletics events scheduled for later this year.
