Campus Clips: CBS’s LSU-Alabama Web Stream a Milestone Moment; Boise State Granted Permission to Pursue Big East

CBSSports.com will be streaming Saturday’s colossal SEC football matchup between No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama. The stream is available at CBSSports.com/SECLive. CBS has streamed its SEC on CBS game online each week over the past two seasons, but for the network to stream one of the biggest regular season college football games in recent memory is a milestone moment in the push to present live college sports on various platforms and devices. According to Mobile Sports Report, an SEC on CBS web stream usually draws a viewing audience “that hovers around six figures.” This game, however, could likely draw significantly bigger numbers with availability on computers and iOS devices, including the iPhone and iPad…

…Barely four months after officially joining the Mountain West Conference, Boise State University is now free to accept an “imminent” invitation from the Big East Conference in football and move its other sports programs to another league. The Idaho State Board of Education voted, 7-1, on Thursday after a 30-minute discussion to give Boise State President Bob Kustra that authority…

…The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced a contract extension with NeuLion as the exclusive live video and audio provider of select NAIA National Championships. The partnership will continue through the 2013-14 season. NeuLion is the NAIA’s Digital Media Partner and official video-streaming company of 10 select NAIA National Championship events. The contract extends a partnership that has been maintained for at least the last six seasons….

…A pair of schools announced television schedules for upcoming winter sports seasons.

Hofstra University unveiled a schedule that features a total of 30 televised regular season contests between men’s and women’s basketball. The men’s basketball team will be showcased on television 18 times during the regular season, with the first occurring on Nov. 11 in the Pride’s home opener against Long Island (FiOS1 TV). The men’s team has a Feb. 8 game against George Mason and a Feb. 22 game versus William & Mary that will be carried online by ESPN3. The Pride women’s basketball schedule will feature 12 televised contests, beginning with a Nov. 18 game versus St. John’s airing on FiOS1 TV (tape delay).

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) will have two men’s ice hockey home games carried nationally by The NBC Sports Group. RPI’s game against Dartmouth College on Jan. 6 kicks off the four-game ECAC Hockey portion of the coverage by Versus, which will be re-branded as NBC Sports Network. The Engineers other game to be aired live is Feb. 3 against Cornell University. RPI now has eight games that will be televised this season – Time Warner Cable Sports will also carry six contests, half of which will be home games at Houston Field House…

…Taylor University (Upland, In.) will offer live video streaming for select men’s and women’s basketball home games this season. The digital service – provided by Stretch Internet – will deliver its first stream tonight at 7 p.m. for the women’s basketball team’s season opener against Trinity Christian College. During the 2011-12 academic year, most men’s and women’s basketball home regular and postseason games will be available this winter via the live video stream…
