PlayOn! Sports Hires Bo LaMotte as EVP of Distribution

PlayOn! Sports, a rights holder, producer, distributor, and aggregator of high school sports events, announced today that Bo LaMotte has joined the company as executive vice president, distribution. LaMotte will oversee PlayOn’s comprehensive distribution strategy with established and emerging media platforms. LaMotte will be based in Chicago and report to David Rudolph, president and CEO of PlayOn.

“Bo’s extensive experience in the media industry and proven track record make him the perfect person to oversee PlayOn’s distribution strategy as we continue to expand our high school sports product,” said Rudolph.  “PlayOn has emerged as the leader in the high school sports space, and we will continue to aggressively pursue opportunities that allow us to deliver compelling content to as many people as possible.”

LaMotte’s experience adds to PlayOn’s depth in the high school sports market, including exclusive and extensive rights holdings, partnerships with state high school associations, and relationships with hundreds of high schools through the School Broadcast Program.  PlayOn annually produces more than 8,000 events, crowns over 1,000 state champions, and generates more than 15,000 hours of live and on-demand event coverage from 21 states across the country.

LaMotte comes to PlayOn after having formed his own media consulting firm, Digital Media Distribution, which specialized in developing and implementing multi-platform distribution agreements.  The firm helped numerous companies by expanding existing platforms, as well as creating new media assets that created incremental revenue.

Prior to Digital Media Distribution, LaMotte was the senior vice president of distribution for Universal Sports, beginning with the network when it was initially created. In his four-plus years with Universal Sports, LaMotte grew the network’s television distribution from zero to more than 65 million households. He secured distribution in 54 markets, including all top 10 Designated Market Areas (DMAs) in the United States, and reached additional carriage agreements in Puerto Rico and Guam.  He also negotiated content distribution deals with Sirius/XM Radio, Hulu, YouTube, Sprint, and FoxSports.com.  In addition, he created a joint venture with SEG to form WCSN Australia, providing Universal Sports content to Australia and New Zealand.

LaMotte’s television experience includes working for various networks including MTV Networks, ABC Family, Comedy Central, and Tribune Media where he oversaw distribution deals as well as retransmission consent deals for the television stations.

LaMotte received his bachelor of arts and science from the University of Virginia.
