Elemental Technologies Delivers Multiscreen Pan Am Games for Terra

Terra, a global online-media company based in Brazil, recently tapped Elemental Technologies to help it deliver Pan American Games content to a variety of platforms via Elemental Live. Terra delivered bitrate-adapted video streams to a wide number of IP-enabled devices across 17 countries in Latin America.

“For Terra, we had 18 different outputs for each input, with input signals coming in via Ethernet or HD-SDI and then out to the Internet with six HD and 12 SD profiles,” says Keith Wymbs, VP of marketing, Elemental Technologies.

The Pan Am Games continued a busy period for Elemental Technologies. The company is working with WWE, TF1 (for Rugby World Cup coverage), Eurosport, Deltatre, the Big Ten Network, and others.

“We delivered realtime Rugby World Cup highlights for TF1,” says Wymbs. “It was seven weeks of live streaming to IPTV or ISP operators in France.”

With an ever-increasing number of devices on the Android platform, the Apple iPhone, and then tablets like the iPad, Fire, and Nook, content creators are, more than ever, facing the challenge of encoding for dozens of devices at multiple bitrates.

“The Android platform is not as straightforward as the IOS world,” says Wymbs of Apple’s operating system. “But, even with iPad, they want to have four formats, then serve the iPhone. And then there is Droid, which is fragmented with different iterations of the operating system or tweaks on the video player itself. But that is good for Elemental, as we can help customers achieve more and more ubiquity.”
