Campus Clips: Fox Sports Purchases USC Multimedia Rights; NBC Missouri Affiliate Deploys LiveU Backpacks for Tigers’ Bowl Coverage

According to Sports Business Journal, the University of Southern California has completed a deal to outsource its multimedia rights to Fox Sports. The 10-year deal is believed to net USC more than $7 million a year on average, about $1 million more than the Trojans were doing annually on their own. A college deal is rare for Fox, which only has a similar deal in Florida with its affiliate Sun Sports…

…KOMU-TV, the NBC affiliate in mid-Missouri that is owned by the University of Missouri, is working with LiveU to cover the Missouri Tigers’ appearance in the Independence Bowl, taking place Dec. 26th in Shreveport, LA. A team of two student reporters will be traveling to the game with one LiveU backpack to provide live shots and feed video for the station’s weekly sports show on Christmas Day, as well as provide game day coverage on Dec. 26…

…In an interview with The South Bend Tribune, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said that volatile conference realignment and the upcoming end of its media deal with NBC leaves the football team’s treasured independent status on tenuous ground. With the possibility of a Notre Dame network not out of the question, Swarbick said, “what we’re trying to do with our media is a factor for us. No one more than I would love to have an extended period of status quo. We have to keep watching these other things and see what happens, but we’re thrilled that the Big East was able to add the members they’re adding…”

…The city of Las Vegas is looking to fight its way into the Pac-12 picture. According to local reports, the city, led by Las Vegas Events and MGM Resort, are making a push to grab the Pac-12 men’s basketball tournament beginning in 2013. The conference’s current deal with the Staples Center expires after this season and other cities, including Seattle and Salt Lake City, are said to have submitted bids…

…The Atlantic 10 Conference and CBS Sports Network have added three nationally-televised league contests, including a regular-season women’s basketball game, along with the 2012 A-10 lacrosse and baseball championships. CBS Sports Network will broadcast the Xavier at St. Bonaventure women’s basketball game on Feb. 18. The game will now tip-off at 2:00 p.m., and will be part of a doubleheader with the Bonnies’ men’s game versus Rhode Island…
