PR Exec Jeff Pomeroy Departs Turner Sports

Jeff Pomeroy, a 20-year sports and entertainment PR veteran, announced his departure from Turner Sports effective January 1, 2012, to serve as President of JDP Communications, a full-service Atlanta-based Boutique PR Sports & Entertainment firm.

JDP Communications’ initial roster of clients includes AM Holding Group (AMHG), the owners and operators of Sadekar World Golf, All-American Games, the owners and producers of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, and Kenny Smith Entertainment Group (KSEG), with additional clients to be announced at a later date.

“I am thrilled to take the knowledge I have accrued over the past 20 years working on top-tier sports and entertainment properties and events and applying it to a variety of exciting new projects,” said Pomeroy. “JDP Communications will work hand-in-hand with our clients to ensure we deliver a clear and targeted message that resonates with their audience through a variety of media platforms.”

“We are fortunate to engage someone of Jeff’s stature to lead our communications efforts promoting AMHG’s exciting platforms of interwoven cross-collaborative marketing efforts that we expect will have a significant impact on how brand marketers manage their spend through their supply chain,” said David J. Alpert, managing partner of AM Holding Group. “Additionally, we know that Jeff’s 20 years of sports communication experience and contacts will be a huge asset in the development of our Sadekar World Golf business.”

“Having worked with Jeff for the past 10 years at Turner Sports, I know firsthand the quality of service his company will provide and look forward to utilizing JDP Communications to find inventive and creative ways to enhance the KSEG brand,” said Kenny Smith, TNT NBA analyst and president of Kenny Smith Entertainment Group.

“We are excited that Jeff is willing to add his expertise and relationships to our communication’s team,” said Doug Berman, chairman of All-American Games.  “We are confident that he will significantly enhance our public relations efforts on behalf of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, the Eastbay Youth Bowl, and the FBU National Championship.”

Previously, Pomeroy served as senior director of public relations for Turner Sports, where he oversaw the day-to-day operations for the division’s extensive linear and digital assets. The division’s marquee properties include televised coverage of the NBA, NCAA, MLB, NASCAR, and professional golf across networks TNT, TBS and truTV, and online assets NASCAR.com, PGATour.com, PGA.com, Golf.com, NBA Digital (NBA TV, NBA.com, WNBA.com, NBA League Pass Broadband), NCAA Digital (NCAA.com, March Madness On Demand, NCAA Mobile), SI.com, TBS Hot Corner on MLB.com, and TNT Overtime on NBA.com.

During his 12-years at Turner Sports, Pomeroy worked in conjunction with fellow senior executives in production, marketing, ad sales, legal, new media, and talent relations to identify, prepare, and execute comprehensive promotional plans to best position and maximize their efforts and those of the brands they represented. He also served as a spokesman and advisor on key issues impacting Turner Sports, including crisis communications, and developed, planned, and implemented strategic media communications that best maximized promotional effectiveness through traditional and non-traditional forms of print, online, broadcast and social media.

Prior to working on Turner Sports’ myriad of properties, Pomeroy served as director of public relations for the Goodwill Games, a major international multi-sport competition, where he oversaw, developed, implemented, and executed the overall publicity campaigns, strategies and press operations for the 2000 Winter Goodwill Games in Lake Placid, New York and the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane, Australia.

Before moving to Atlanta to join Turner Broadcasting, Pomeroy spent five years in Showtime Networks, Inc.’s Sports & Event Programming department in New York where he developed, planned and implemented publicity campaigns for both Showtime Championship Boxing as well as for Showtime’s pay-per-view arm, Showtime Event Television. Projects included some of the top grossing pay-per-view events of all time, including Tyson vs. Holyfield I and Holyfield vs. Tyson II.

Pomeroy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism from Pace University. He is a charter member of the Atlanta Sports Communications Group, a member of Toastmasters International, and a volunteer for the American Heart Association.
