Ratings Roundup: NBC Enjoys Solid Weekend with Pro Bowl, NHL All-Star Game

An average of 12.5 million fans tuned into the 2012 Pro Bowl Sunday on NBC, ranking as the second most-watched NFL All-Star game since 2001 behind last year’s game (13.4 million viewers). The Pro Bowl also topped by second-most watched all-star game in the past year, the MLB All-Star Game on FOX (11.0 million viewers), by 14%. New Orleans topped all local metered markets with a 21.8 rating/29 share followed by Milwaukee (17.6/25) and Pittsburgh (17.2/24). …Despite the absence of Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, overnight ratings held steady for the 2012 NHL All-Star Game. NBC Sports Network earned a 1.0 overnight rating for Sunday’s All-Star Game, even with last year and up 22% from 2009…

..Sunday’s Novak Djokovic/Rafael Nadal Australian Open Men’s Final earned a 0.6 overnight rating on ESPN2. On Saturday, the Victoria Azarenka/Maria Sharapova Women’s Final earned a 0.4.

…Comcast SportsNet Chicago saw a significant boost in ratings for its Chicago Blackhawks game coverage during the first half of the NHL season. CSN Chicago’s TV ratings for the Chicago Blackhawks are currently averaging a 3.27 household rating at the season’s mid-point (approx. 114,238 households), a 28% increase compared to last season’s 2.55 average at the All-Star Game break (an increase of approx. 25,000 households). The 3.27 average is also Comcast SportsNet’s highest-ever Blackhawks average to date at the All-Star break. Eight Blackhawks telecasts have averaged at least a 4.0 household rating this season, four more than the network earned all of last season.

CSN Chciago has also seen a major boost for its Bulls coveragae, averaging a 6.25 household rating, a year-to-date increase of 58% compared to last season through 13 telecasts. On Jan. 25, CSN Chicago delivered the highest regular season Bulls game rating in network history with an 8.73 household rating for the Bulls tilt with the Pacers (305,000 households) The 8.73 single game regular season ratings record on Comcast SportsNet shatters the network’s previous all-time Bulls regular season high set earlier this month on January 3 vs. Atlanta (7.66 household rating). Plus – the 8.73 household rating now ranks as the #1 highest-rated regular season game – for any team – in Comcast SportsNet history, eclipsing the previous record of an 8.30 household rating for the Chicago Cubs at Milwaukee Brewers telecast from July 28, 2008…

NBA TV’s broadcast of the Los Angeles Clippers at the Los Angeles Lakers game on Jan. 25 delivered 532,000 homes, 686,000 total viewers, making it the third most-watched 2011-12 regular season game ever on NBA TV in terms of total viewers.
