Campus Clips: Midco Sports Net to Carry Horizon League Hoops Tourneys; Memphis Joins Big East

For the second consecutive year, The Summit League and Midco Sports Network (based in Sioux Falls, SD) have reached an agreement that will give the network exclusive rights to produce, broadcast and distribute all men’s and women’s quarterfinal and semifinal games at The 2012 Summit League Basketball Championships. Midco Sports Network will air 12 of the 14 tournament games live throughout its markets in South Dakota, North Dakota and in parts of rural Minnesota and Wisconsin. In addition, Midco Sports Network will extend access to the tournament by providing rebroadcasts during the week and archived games via its cable systems. The 2012 Summit League women’s championship game will be broadcast on ESPNU with the men’s championship on ESPN2…

…The conference realignment carousel kept spinning this week as Memphis announced it will join the Big East in all sports beginning in 2013. The conference’s board of directors unanimously voted to extend the invitation to Memphis on Wednesday. The Big East will also be adding Central Florida, Houston, SMU, Navy, San Diego State and Boise State in the coming years, and soon will lose West Virginia to the Big 12 and Pittsburgh and Syracuse to the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Big East’s plan has been to get to 12 football teams and eventually have a conference championship game. Memphis, plus incumbent schools Cincinnati, UConn, Louisville, Rutgers and South Florida, could get the conference to that point by 2015…

…BTN announced it will televise seven winter sports Big Ten championships, including wrestling, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, and men’s and women’s gymnastics. BTN’s coverage beginning with women’s swimming and diving on Feb. 25 at 11 a.m…

…According to a report from The Daily Tar Heel, marketing officials in the University of North Carolina Athletics Department have increased their emphasis on social media and multi-screen engagement. A free UNC app now offers live scoring and video via iPhones.
