The Switch successfully launched Switch-IT, (Switch Intelligent Transport), its new customer-controlled uncompressed HD broadcast transmission system on March 4, 2012.  Under Switch-IT, The Switch has 27 cities connected via its ICOD (Inter-City on Demand) 10 Gbps Mesh Network.

Switch-IT was designed from top-to-bottom with the customer in mind.  Highlights of the system include automated scheduling or on-demand switching, the ability to transmit in any digital format, dual transmission path backup at no extra cost, a no cancellation penalty policy and a pay only for what you use policy.

The launch of Switch-IT marks the completion of the first phase of a three-phase expansion plan, announced at NAB 2011.

“We have spent a significant amount of time and effort to develop what we believe is the next generation video transport system”, said Scott Beers, President and CEO.  “Our goal was to provide an unparalleled customer control experience and a network capable of handling uncompressed HD video to and from 50 cities.  We are proud to have reached that first milestone.”

Switch-IT was designed and built specifically for our broadcast video customers enabling them to transmit uncompressed HD with the anticipation of future 3G capabilities.

Switch-IT was an extremely ambitious project which required a complete redesign of our entire network infrastructure,” said Beers.  “We are so thankful to our loyal customers who appreciated the complexity of this project and cooperated to an unprecedented degree during our transition.”

Switch-IT, boasts many innovative and enhanced features to provide the highest video transmission quality, ease of use, convenience, and security.
