NAB 2012: Sports Broadcasting Hall of Famer David Finch To Speak at Anton/Bauer’s Live Event

Sports Broadcasting Hall of Famer David Finch will join some of film and cinematography’s most respected experts as he shares his experience in sports broadcasting during the 2012 NAB Show Vitec Live Event, hosted by Anton/Bauer, on Wednesday, April 18, at 11:30 a.m.

The Live Event area (Booth C6929) will feature six daily sessions covering hot topics and tips on everything from how to transform studio lighting to discussions on HDSLR and emerging digital technologies. Specialists from such key Vitec Group brands as Anton Bauer, Bexel, Litepanels, Manfrotto, OConnor, RF Central, Sachtler, and Vinten will support the sessions and be on hand to share their extensive product and industry knowledge.

“We are honored that David Finch will share his expertise with attendees during the Vitec Live Event at this year’s NAB,” says Shin Minowa, vice president of marketing and business development, Anton/Bauer. “From his experience as a camera operator with CBS Sports to capturing the live events during the Olympics, we look forward to him imparting his experience as one of the most versatile camera operators in the business and how the mobile power provided by Anton/Bauer keeps him running in games’ critical moments.”

A pioneer in his field who has helped create the way sports are viewed on television today, David Finch has been lead handheld camera operator for CBS Sports for 30 years, where he defined the use of the handheld—from the days of loaded, cumbersome cameras that weighed almost as much as the operator—to today’s versatile minis. Pioneering the now-standard shot of walking alongside a golfer, Finch single-handedly changed the way golf is depicted on television.

In addition to his work on golf courses around the world, Finch has made his mark on NFL, NBA, USTA, NASCAR, and NCAA basketball broadcasts, as well as three winter Olympics (Albertville, France; Lillehammer, Norway; and Nagano, Japan). The way in which Finch frames his shots has shaped the next generation of camera operators, both at CBS Sports and beyond. His talents in live sports and ENG are legendary throughout the business. The premier shooter for a multitude of award-winning features and the standard-bearer of the handheld era, Finch has forever changed the look of sports production. He received 13 Emmy Awards and was recently inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
