NAB 2012: TVU Networks Partners with Sony, JVC

TVU Networks announced a new consolidated solution that integrates the Sony XDCAM family of cameras and XMPilot, an advanced metadata workflow solution, with the award-winning TVUPack mobile 3G/4G/LTE wireless uplink solution. This solution delivers the ability to broadcast live or transfer video clips from virtually any location while preserving the associated metadata. Sony and TVU will be showing live demonstrations of the integrated solution in both the Sony pavilion and TVU’s booth (SU8519) at NAB 2012.

With this partnership, the fully-integrated solution extends Sony’s XDCAM production workflow to TVUPack’s ability to deliver live and store-and-forward video footage. This solution further improves the speed and efficiency of live production projects.

“Hundreds of broadcasters around the world rely on TVUPack to deliver live footage of news and events because of its superior picture quality and ability to go live with just the push of the button. This joint solution with Sony enables news operations to streamline the way they deliver news footage to their viewers,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks. “We are looking forward to continuing to work with Sony to develop additional mobile broadcast solutions to benefit our joint customers.”

Already in use by hundreds of broadcast organizations, TVUPack gives broadcasters satellite microwave TV truck functionality in a lightweight backpack. TVUPack is powered by TVU’s proprietary Inverse StatMux technology, which dynamically segments a live video signal and transmits the segments through multiple independent 3G/4G/WiFi/WiMax connections. TVUPack is simple to use and provides broadcasters with low-latency, HD-quality signal that enables them to broadcast live at any time and from any location.

With XMPilot, users can create planning metadata with the XMPilot Planner in advance and have the flexibility to transfer this metadata to a camcorder remotely via email and WiFi, as well as directly via USB or file-copying onto a recording media. Live logging and post-shoot logging against the timecode with the XMPilot tool running on mobile devices, such as smartphones and touch tablets, enables further enrichment of the metadata with essence marks and comments. This eliminates paper-based logging, manual data entry and typing errors, boosting workflow efficiency and reducing production costs. The XMPilot Live viewing option allows XMPilot users to select a target camcorder (with XMPilot Tool GUI) and view live stream recording whilst away from the shooting set.

The company will showcase an integrated 3G/4G/LTE mobile uplink solution with JVC Professional Products Company in the JVC booth (C4314) and TVU booth (SU8519). The solution, which combines the TVUPack Mini with the JVC GY-HM700 series of cameras, gives broadcasters a powerful portable broadcast solution for both direct-to-Web and on-air broadcast.

This joint solution gives broadcasters, production crews, news agencies and independent videographers the ability to broadcast live professional broadcast quality video in a compact, portable and ultra-lightweight form factor. TVUPack Mini weighs under two pounds and fits a wide variety of camera setups including direct camera mount and belt mount configurations. Additionally, TVUPack Mini is simple to use, enabling camera operators to go live with just the push of a button without the need for in-field configuration.

“We chose to partner with TVU because the company offers innovative mobile broadcasting solutions that meet the high standards that JVC customers demand. The combination of JVC cameras and TVUPack Mini gives our customers the ideal solution for video crews to capture and transmit professional video on the go,” said Lon Mass, VP Sales and Marketing, JVC Professional Video Products.

The GY-HM700 family of cameras combines JVC’s popular compact shoulder form factor with a new level of performance suitable for demanding applications in mainstream production, ENG, and cinematography. With solid state recording capabilities and a fast workflow, the GY-HM700 family of cameras provides camera crews with powerful, versatile professional camcorder solutions that are ideal for mobile ENG.

“We are working closely with JVC to develop joint solutions that better serve our customers’ needs. As a result of this relationship, JVC Professional and TVU customers have a powerful mobile solution to capture and transmit live video footage from virtually anywhere in the world while ensuring superior picture quality,” said Paul Shen, CEO, TVU Networks.
