NAB Perspectives: Spectra Logic’s ZiaShakeri Aims To Educate Colleges on Importance of Digital Storage

For suppliers in the digital-asset–management business, one of the toughest challenges is selling a client on the importance of making the investment in a digital archive. At the NAB Show this week, though, Spectra Logic has seen a notable spike in interest in the storage and monetization systems it provides.

SVP of Business Development Hossein ZiaShakeri sees rising interest in digital archiving.

“The biggest thing we have seen is the explosion and the need for [digital archives],” says Hossein ZiaShakeri, SVP of business development and alliances. “We have had every major player from both the entertainment and sports sides come by. We have also met with some universities. They are understanding from the other players in the entertainment side how important it is to have the content digital so that they can do something with it.

He is hoping that his company can make a strong move into the college space, especially when it comes to sports, by showing administrators the value and possibilities for additional revenue.

“Colleges are lagging in the adoption of file-based workflow, but they are being forced into it now with the usage of digital cameras,” says ZiaShakeri. “What we are trying to do is educate the market on where is the value, what value do you get out of it, and why should you do this sort of stuff.”

Highlighted at the Spectra Logic booth in the North Hall is the company’s T-Finity and T950 data-tape libraries. High-capacity T-Finity scales to millions of hours of storage and includes management features to help ensure that archives are always available.
