XOS Digital, DotNetNuke Team Up on College Sports Websites

DotNetNuke Corp. announced that XOS Digital Inc. has built its sports-specific XOS Digital Content Management System on the DotNetNuke Professional Edition.

The web properties of major college sports teams, conferences and events, including NCAA Football, the BIG EAST Conference, the Southeastern (SEC) Conference, the Pac-12 Conference and the Rose Bowl Game, run on the platform.

XOS Digital is a provider of sports video technology, including video editing software for coaches, and digital networks for collegiate conferences. Digital Networks consist of an official website, branded YouTube channels, mobile and tablet applications and a Smart TV channel. The company also hosts full game day video footage for fans to watch on-demand from their computer, mobile and tablet apps or Smart TV after the live broadcast rights expire. XOS Digital selected the DotNetNuke Professional Edition as the Web Content Management System (CMS) for its robust sports services platform because of the CMS’ ease-of-use, extensibility, powerful development tools and ability to scale to accommodate high traffic loads.

“DotNetNuke is a powerful and reliable CMS platform,” said Chris McCleary, CEO of XOS Digital. “It has enabled us to compete aggressively as a service provider of digital content not only because of the scalability and security it provides, but also because it makes it incredibly easy for our customers to update and manage content on their own sites.”

XOS Digital migrated its platform from the DotNetNuke Community Edition to the DotNetNuke Professional Edition largely because of its cache synchronization capability for web server farms, which allows XOS Digital to handle heavy peak traffic loads. Website traffic averages more than 360,000 unique visitors monthly during college football season and peaked at 3 million page views during November 2011. The company is currently operating two web farms and six servers.

“DNN has provided us the platform we needed to build and deliver on the features our clients want, while supporting heavy college football season traffic,” said Karen Wade, director of online development at XOS Digital. “The ability to scale across servers in a web farm during peak traffic times has been key to our company’s growth.”

“The online experience we offer to fans has become an essential part of the overall college sports experience,” said SEC Digital Network General Manager Ben Godwin. “Fans are very passionate about their teams and conferences, and they heavily depend on websites to get up-to-date sporting information. We are very pleased with the reliable, highly functional web environment that XOS Digital and DotNetNuke are providing for the Southern Conference.”

XOS Digital is in the process of upgrading its sites to DotNetNuke 6.2, the latest version of the software, which offers a suite of social capabilities.

“We know that watching college sports is one of Americans’ favorite pastimes,” said Navin Nagiah, CEO of DotNetNuke, Corp.. “It’s terrific that DotNetNuke’s platform is instrumental in keeping fans connected and up-to-date on their favorite college teams and conferences through video and content on the web. We are pleased that XOS Digital has chosen to build its rich multi-media sports platform on DotNetNuke.”

XOS Digital’s implementation will be a featured presentation at DNN World 2012. Kurt Amstutz, XOS Digital’s Web Application Developer, will deliver an in-depth case study about the XOS Digital Content Management System at the conference, which will be held at the Buena Vista Resort & Spa in Orlando, Florida from Oct. 10-12.
