Behind the Mic: Kremer To Focus on Player Safety at NFL Network; ESPN adds Caliendo to Sunday NFL Countdown

Veteran reporter Andrea Kremer has joined NFL Network as the chief correspondent for a newly-formed unit covering player health and safety issues. Arash Ghadishah, a former Nightline and White House producer for ABC News, has also joined NFL Network to work with Kremer and the other reporters. Kremer recently contributed to NBCUniversal’s coverage of the London Olympics and served as the sideline reporter for Sunday Night Football until 2011. She will continue as correspondent to HBO’s Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel

…Comedian and impressionist Frank Caliendo is joining ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown as a contributor, making his debut this Sunday. Caliendo will make a handful of other appearances on the three-hour pregame show during the regular season and playoffs, primarily in taped comedy segments. Caliendo was a regular contributor on Fox NFL Sunday for nine seasons (2003-11)…

…MSG Network has added Wally Szczerbiak to its pre- and post-game Knicks studio show for this season. The network has also brought back play-by-play announcer Mike Breen and analyst Walt “Clyde” Frazier, as well as courtside reporter Tina Cervasio and feature reporter Jill Martin. Joining Szczerbiak in the studio will be Al Trautwig, who will host home telecasts, and Bill Pidto who will handle host responsibilities for road games. Alan Hahn will return for his second season as a Knicks studio analyst…

…Dodgers outfielder Shane Victorino joined TBS as a studio analyst Monday through Wednesday as part of the network’s ongoing Division Series coverage. The TBS studio seat is open in the Division Series while Cal Ripken Jr. is making his postseason debut on the primary TBS broadcast announcing team, When TBS moves to the American League Championship Series, Ron Darling will join the primary announcing team and Ripken will move back to the Atlanta studio…

…Willie Geist has been named co-host of the 9 a.m. hour of NBC’s Today, effective Nov. 12, 2012. In his new role, Geist will continue as a contributor to NBC News programs as well as NBC Sports Group, where he will report for the Olympics and NBC Sports Network. Geist will also remain co-host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” where he has covered national politics since 2007. Geist also anchored NBC Sports Network’s coverage of the 2012 London Olympic Games.
