NewTek Ships Virtual Set Editor 2

NewTek announced the shipment of Virtual Set Editor 2, a companion application to TriCaster that allows for complete creation and customization of virtual studio environments and visual effects for video production.

“Traditionally, virtual studios have been out of the reach of most people who produce video, requiring expensive investments and compromises on quality,” said Dr. Andrew Cross, NewTek CTO. “Virtual Set Editor supports our ongoing commitment to develop the tools that enable anyone to create professional video without breaking the budget. With NewTek Virtual Set Editor 2, the days of black curtains and a potted plant are over.”

Audiences expect the videos they watch—whether over a live stream, a broadcast, a webinar, or a staged event—to have high production value, but not everyone producing video is able to afford a professional studio or a traditional virtual set system. With the introduction of NewTek Virtual Set Editor 2, now even the smallest live productions can meet that demand with network-quality custom virtual sets and brand-elevating visual elements.

According to a company release from NewTek, Virtual Set Editor 2 provides:

Standalone capability: A second license installed on a separate Microsoft Windows workstation in addition to the TriCaster system makes team  collaboration possible. Set designers can create virtual environments in their own workspace, freeing the primary on-air system for dedicated production or a road trip.

Total customization: Every show can have its unique, signature look; every brand can create its own elements and incorporate into set design, identity elements, and even custom transitions with the included Animation Store Creator.

Photorealistic look: VSE compositions use high-resolution elements, life-like camera movements, and TriCaster’s graphics processing engine to evoke realism that stands up to close inspection. Multiple live video inputs can be placed within the set, scaled, rotated and even mapped to fit 3D shapes (such as curved ‘virtual video walls’) with pixel-perfect accuracy. Real-time reflections add even more realism to the effect.

Animation Store Creator: This powerful switcher effects engine included with VSE 2 allows the creation of complex transitions with full color full motion overlays, audio for both directions and even warped video mapped against any 3D surface—such as cloth effects—for the highest-impact presentations possible.

Easier collaborative workflows: Extensive support for layered Photoshop® PSD files makes it easy to prepare imagery using most popular graphics packages, then effortlessly import the scene as a new VSE virtual set project. Designers can prepare sets and effects, then transfer the finished product to any TriCaster on the same
network when required – even while a production is live.

Starter-pack virtual sets: Pre-made, fully customizable virtual set content included, ready-to-use right out of the box without worrying about extensive set creation time and costs.

TriCaster Wins Education Tech Award
Tech & Learning announced the winners in its prestigious 30-year-old recognition program and NewTek TriCaster 455 was honored as an outstanding education technology product.

TriCaster 455 is a multi-camera video production solution for emerging web and video pros, and schools or facilities with small or mobile production suites. It combines complete professional live production capabilities with built-in Web streaming, in a compact solution scaled for booths, studios and vans, and allows video production teams to quickly reach their audiences from anywhere.

“More and more schools want to stream events live for the benefit of parents, deployed military friends and family members, alums who have moved away, and any other fans who are unable to attend games,” said Philip Nelson, NewTek SVP of Artist and Media Relations. “Receiving the award just reaffirms to us that it doesn’t matter if it is a student, booster club member, parent, coach or teacher—anyone can produce a high-quality, live streaming broadcast for their school using TriCaster 455.”
