BBC and BSkyB to Help Promote 'Ultra HD' TV in the UK

Telegraph.co.uk reports that a new group has launched to promote the benefits of ‘Ultra HD’ television in the UK, so as to avoid a repeat of the confusion experienced by consumers over the ‘HD Ready’ label.

The group, known as the UHD-Forum, will be led by the industry association for digital television in the UK, Digital TV Group, and co-chaired by Chris Johns, chief engineer for broadcast strategy at BSkyB, and Andy Quested, head of Technology for BBC HD and Ultra HD TV.

They will work hand-in-hand with FAME (the Forum for Advanced Media in Europe) and other European standard organisations, as well as broadcasters and the Digital Production Partnership, to examine whether there is a requirement for a UK “Ultra HD profile”.
