Ultra HD Television Seen Taking Off In 2015 In U.S

Investors.com reports that Ultra HD television, next-generation technology boasting four times the picture resolution of today’s puny high-definition displays, is barely a ripple in the market now but is poised to take off by 2015, a new report says.

And online streaming video services like Netflix (NFLX) will likely lead the way in delivering Ultra HD content, says Brian Markwalter, senior vice president of research and standards at the Consumer Electronics Association.

Ultra HDTV shipments in the U.S. should climb from 57,000 this year to 450,000 in 2014 and 1.2 million in 2015, says a CEA report published Wednesday. By then, prices for the jumbo-sized TV screens should fall and enough content will be available to drive consumers to upgrade.
