Miranda Unveils Latest Axino IP-based Loudness Processing Unit

Miranda Technologies (a Belden Brand) has introduced Axino-400, a new addition to its Axino IP-based loudness processing platform. The new offering serves as a cost-effective loudness processing option for multichannel broadcasters that already distribute content in MPEG format.

The Axino-400 retains the performance of the original Axino-410, which is a high-channel count solution for cable and satellite television operators, but uses a scaled-down server that addresses a reduced channel count and facilitates a more cost-effective solution. Axino-400 enables broadcasters to monitor up to 40 channels from one device that will find and repair loudness irregularities using Miranda’s Automatic Loudness Control to ensure compliance with established loudness control mandates.

“Increasingly, broadcasters produce a large channel count that requires monitoring and correction for each audio channel to ensure quality of experience and meet loudness requirements,” says Scott Murray, SVP, Core Products, Miranda. “Unfortunately, that can be costly, particularly in baseband, for broadcasters of any size.

“The Axino range guarantees audio compliance at the compressed end of the signal path, ensuring no further anomalies can be reintroduced to already processed and compliant audio channels prior to distribution,” he continues. “Making that advanced processing available in the form of the Axino-400 ensures that those with more modest monitoring requirements can guarantee compliance without having to pay for processing power they don’t need.”

Axino-400 performs its measurement and correction processes in real time with no effect on video quality. In addition, audio processing can be optimized by selecting loudness control profiles that best match the specific type of programming and the speed of reaction required.

Axino-400 works by logging issues that are identified as problematic and placing them on a watch list. If the issues persist, Axino-400’s control capabilities restrict the program audio to acceptable loudness parameters. The device also provides comprehensive loudness logs as proof to cable and satellite operators that the signal was within limits.

Axino-400 features dual power supplies and dual transport stream input ports with automatic switchover. The unit is also capable of operating in full backup mode using 1+1 redundancy.
