Belden Earns Top Ranking by The Patent Board for Technology Strength

Belden Inc. has topped The Patent Board’s latest list for the Industrial Components and Fixtures industry, maintaining its position as the No. 1 ranked innovator. The results were released in the Dec. 10, 2013, edition of The Wall Street Journal.

For the second consecutive quarter, Belden received the highest score for technology strength – a measure that indicates the overall strength of the company’s innovation and patent portfolio, considering quality and quantity. The Industrial Components and Fixtures category includes companies that manufacture and produce electrical and plumbing supplies and fixtures, automation and controls systems, welding and cutting equipment, and light fixtures.

“The skills and technologies the industry needs in order to excel are changing, and this recognition by The Patent Board underscores our commitment to innovation in order to benefit our customers,” said Dave Jackson, vice president and general manager at PPC Broadband, Inc., a Belden brand. “To provide products and services that help our customers profitably grow their business, we continue to increase our investment in research and development – placing a priority on networking solutions that will support the data demands of our customers, for today and tomorrow.”

Based on 13-week rolling averages, The Patent Board’s quarterly scorecard includes more than 50 indicators, tracking global patent activity relating to innovation, science and technology strengths. Companies are measured through the criteria of patents granted, science strength, innovation cycle time, industry impact, technology strength and research intensity.

In its tireless pursuit of innovation, Belden continues to transform into a signal transmission solution provider with cable, connectivity and networking products. Together with its most recent acquisition, Belden and PPC – a leading provider of broadband connectivity solutions – have secured more patents and pending applications in connectivity technology than any other company worldwide.
