Taylor begins his fifth year in 2013-14 as an instructor of telecommunications at Ball State University and leads the department’s digital sports production and immersion efforts.

In 2013, Taylor was promoted to Director of Digital Sports Production, coordinating the first digital sports production track of its kind in the nation.

The Digital Sports Production sequence in the existing Digital Production option joins Digital Audio, Digital Video and Emerging Media. This sequence will create a new partnership with the School of Physical Education, Sport, and Exercise Science through courses in Sport Administration. It also includes courses from the joint Journalism/TCOM News Track.

The sequence offers skills and applications courses using digital technology to create sports content for distribution across multiple platforms, including interactive and mobile media, tablets, podcasts, and the Internet, plus television and radio. Digital Sports Production prepares students for careers in a developing and changing sports media arena.

In addition to his sports production duties, Taylor also teaches sportswriting and reporting for Ball State’s journalism department, as well as video production courses for the TCOM department.

Since 2009, Taylor has directed Ball State Sports Link, the nation’s first fully immersive digital sports production program.  During the semester, students produce a broad range of media from live remote productions with the University’s 40-foot HD production truck, live-to-tape events, television programs (WIPB-TV, Comcast Indiana, ESPN Networks, Fox Sports Net, Cardinal Vision 57), student-athlete features and webcasts. The students regularly produce 15-20, five-to-six camera, full remote productions for live television each academic year.

Other facets of the immersion program include radio, newspapers, podcasts, social media and the use of mobile technology and interactivity via the web.

Working closely with Ball State Athletics and to maintain a focus on cross-platform promotion, students repackage the feature stories they create for local use at Ball State and send them to local news stations and outlets in the hometown of the featured player-on any platform the station may require.

Since 2009, Taylor’s students in Ball State Sports Link have garnered over 35 state or national awards for sports production, including seven Emmy nominations and 13 Sports Video Group/Best of College Sports Media nominations.  His students have won 18 Indiana Association of School Broadcasters first-place awards, as well as six Broadcast Education Association “best in the nation” honors.

A former college sports information and marketing director, Taylor has served on numerous state, local and national organizing committees, including for NCAA Final Four and other NCAA Championship events.

In addition, he has guided Ball State’s involvement as social media producers for NCAA March Madness Live since 2011, working with the NCAA and Turner Sports.

Taylor is a graduate of Ball State University with his Bachelor’s in Telecommunications (production option) and a Master’s in Sports Administration.
