Venue News: Churchill Downs Boosts DAS Prior to Derby; NBA’s Warriors Move Proposed Arena

Spectators are anticipated to have little problem sharing the photo finish at this weekend’s Kentucky Derby, as Churchill Downs significantly upgraded its multi-carrier Distributed Antenna System (DAS). The neutral-host infrastructure, powered by Mobilitie, will support the wireless demands of more than the collective 260,000 expected visitors to the 140th running of the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby. New enhancements made by Mobilitie more than double coverage capabilities from last year. The upgraded DAS will cover all six levels and basement in the main building, as well as all of the grandstands, parking areas, and newly installed Grandstand Terrace…

…The Golden State Warriors say no major overhaul will be required in their arena development plans after switching sites in San Francisco, writes SportsBusiness Journal. Team officials announced last week that they had moved the project to Mission Bay, a growing neighborhood two miles south of the waterfront site on Piers 30-32 initially targeted by the Warriors. The club bought 12 acres in Mission Bay where it plans to privately build an 18,000-seat facility. It expects the arena to open for the 2018-19 NBA season, Warriors President Rick Welts said…

It is the third phase of a six-step master plan for the stadium and will open just two years after the West Stadium Center project was unveiled before the 2013 football season…

Beloved Yankee reliever Mariano Rivera was brought up to the podium and declared the first season-ticket holder for New York City F.C., the club that was announced almost a year ago as the league’s 20th, with expansion rights purchased by Premier League club Manchester City and the Yankees for $100 million. But by the time the conference had wrapped up, it was clear just how far afield Major League Soccer’s second foray into the New York market had strayed from its goals just a short time ago—how disappointed the club, and MLS commissioner Don Garber, must be to be playing in the Yankees’ yard…

…Worthington Arena on the campus of Montana State University will undergo a $3.2 million facelift, writes the Billings Gazette. The new seats will be added to the lower level on the north and south sides of the arena, complete with backrests and cup holders.
