NBCUniversal To Cover Premier League Championship Sunday with 10 Simultaneous Broadcasts

On Sunday morning, Premier League fans will want to set their alarms and have their remote controls ready. It’s Championship Sunday, and NBCUniversal plans to broadcast all 10 matches simultaneously on 10 NBCUniversal networks.

Following Premier League Live pregame show at 9 a.m. ET on CNBC, NBC will televise matches on NBC, NBCSN, USA, CNBC, MSNBC, Bravo, Syfy, Esquire Network, E!, and Oxygen at 10 a.m. In addition, two of the matches — Manchester City v. West Ham United and Liverpool v. Newcastle United — will be telecast in Spanish on mun2 and Telemundo, respectively.

“We are thrilled about this weekend,” says NBCUniversal Coordinating Producer Pierre Moossa. “I think Sunday is one of the most ambitious projects I’ve been a part of. Ten matches, ten different networks with an hour-long pregame show — it’s going to be a very, very exciting, thrilling weekend. We’re very proud to present this weekend.”

NBCUniversal will have announcers onsite for the Manchester City and Liverpool matches, which will be broadcast on NBC and NBCSN, respectively. A Manchester City win will crown the team Premier League champion for the second time in three seasons; a Manchester City loss and a Liverpool win will net Liverpool its first-ever Premier League title.

If Manchester City is losing and Liverpool is winning, Moossa is open to a split-screen format on NBC. However, that decision will be a day-of judgment call.

“Soccer is a unique game. You never want to leave a live action. But we are prepared to go two boxes on NBC,” he explains. “The one rule I have is that you will always, whatever network you’re on, see the conclusion of that match before you go anywhere else. But, right now, we’re prepared on NBC to show two boxes between City and Liverpool.

“I’m very conscious of being respectful to fans that want to watch the conclusion of City,” he continues, “but, at the same time, we have to truly tell the story.”

In addition, NBCUniversal will dispatch 10 reporters to all sites and follow up the matches with a two-hour postgame show at 12 noon on NBC and NBCSN and a half-hour Premier League Live: The Champions show at 2 p.m. on NBCSN.

“From day one, we set our goals to service the soccer fans. That’s who we are held accountable to,” says Moossa. “Everything we’ve done is to help promote and provide a better experience, a better seat in the house.

“The final day of the season is an exciting day, an emotional day,” he continues. “There’s going to be so many different things happening, it’s not fair for us to be deciding what you see. [This] allows you to have that choice.”
