RED Digital Cinema Targets Production Needs With 4K, 5K, 6K Cameras

The Sports Video Group is pleased to welcome RED Digital Cinema as a premier sponsor. Headquartered in Irvine, CA, the company entered the marketplace in 2006 with its 4K RED ONE digital cinema camera.

By 2008, the same camera used to shoot such features as The Hobbit and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo had entered the world of stills, shooting covers for magazines like Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.

Today, RED cameras are also being deployed at a wide range of sports events, such as the 2014 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and the 2014 Rose Bowl, as well as on the Emmy-winning House of Cards. Additionally, the 6K EPIC DRAGON, 5K EPIC MYSTERIUM-X and SCARLET cameras are based on a modular foundation that gives the flexibility of full customization for each shoot.

This fall, RED will release the RED 4K broadcast module, which gives the shooter the ability to capture and view action in real time, up to 4K and 60 fps. Live broadcasts will be able to take full advantage of the additional resolution that RED provides.

RED’s 6K DRAGON sensor is also breaking new ground in photography-image capture, having received the highest DxO Mark sensor rating ever. With a reworked REDCINE-X PRO, RED also offers more tactical options for photographers to extract two-page–spread–quality images from motion footage. Among its ever-evolving arsenal of features, frame tagging enables shooters to mark and access specific frames during shooting, and A.D.D. (Advanced Dragon Debayer), a new algorithm for DRAGON, carefully analyzes every pixel to create the best frame possible.
