Evertz DreamCatcher Helps Provide Replay Review for MLB

It’s been one year since Major League Baseball embarked on a new era in replay review. Prior to the 2014 MLB season, Evertz deployed its DreamCatcher replay system to support the historic introduction of expanded MLB Replay Review.  A total of 90 DreamCatchers were installed throughout the 30 MLB ballparks to provide advanced capture and review of all Major League Baseball regular season and Postseason games.

Using DreamCatcher’s sophisticated control API and 10 Gbps infrastructure with MLBAM’s own custom replay software, officials at the MLB Replay Operations Center (ROC) in New York City were able to remotely and reliably review multiple production feeds as well as 13 additional camera angles on-demand and in rapid succession.

By gaining remote access to all angles and utilizing advanced MLBAM and DreamCatcher tools, the officials at the MLB ROC can make a definitive call within a matter of seconds.  DreamCatcher’s fast turn-around playback capabilities have been essential to the technical advances in the expanded MLB replay review, set to debut its second season on Opening Day 2015.
