ESPN Player launches dedicated NASL channel

ESPN Player will provide soccer fans across the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa live coverage of the North American Soccer League (NASL) for the 2015 season following the launch of its channel dedicated to the league. A minimum of 130 league matches will be carried on ESPN’s live streaming service.

Nine of the NASL’s 11 clubs – Atlanta Silverbacks, Carolina RailHawks, Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Indy Eleven, Jacksonville Armada FC, Minnesota United FC, New York Cosmos, San Antonio Scorpions, and Tampa Bay Rowdies – will have all 15 of their regular season home matches broadcast live on ESPN Player.

The NASL now features a new-look postseason format, as four clubs qualify to play in ‘The Championship’ that will decide which team lifts the NASL Soccer Bowl trophy. The NASL Spring Season and Fall Season champions will be joined in the semi-finals of The Championship by the two clubs with the next best overall records from both seasons combined (dates TBC).

Spanish goal-machine and Real Madrid legend Raul, now playing for New York Cosmos, is among the more high-profile players in the highly competitive league, which represents the second tier of soccer in the US. Raul is joined in New York by former Villareal star Marcos Senna, who won the 2008 European Championship with Spain, while ex-Manchester United and Brazilian international midfielder Kleberson will line up for Indy Eleven.

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers are part-owned by Brazilian legend Ronaldo, who has stated he will play for the team if fit enough. The South Florida-based will be hoping to go one better than last season, when they lost in the Soccer Bowl to the San Antonio Scorpions.

Extensive coverage of the league including match previews and reports, player interviews and the latest news will continue to be covered across other ESPN platforms, including leading football website ESPN FC.

The 2015 NASL Spring Season kicked off on Saturday, April 4th and will continue through to Saturday, June 13th. The Fall Season kicks off on Saturday, July 4th and is scheduled to end on Sunday, November 4th.
