SMPTE 2015: Grass Valley To Showcase Cameras, IP Solutions

Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, will be leading several sessions in the conference program and showcasing its broadcast solutions in Booth 217 at the SMPTE 2015 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition. The show takes place October 2629 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, CA.

77686_GrassValley_Logo_2c_BSMPTE 2015 provides a unique opportunity for attendees to learn in interactive educational sessions, network with peers, gain insight into future trends, speak with technology experts and view the exhibits. From the symposium on virtual and augmented reality to conference topics such as Ultra High-Definition (UHD), the cloud, content distribution, over-the-top (OTT) and more, visitors will build on their knowledge and skills to be better prepared for the changes ahead.

On Tuesday, October 27, Grass Valley experts will be participating in three conference sessions:

  • 11:15 a.m. – Klaus Weber, senior product marketing manager, cameras, Grass Valley,  will present a session entitled “4K, HDR and Further Image Enhancements for Live Image Acquisition.” The session will cover image acquisition for live broadcast applications, the increased spatial resolution in combination with the additional requirements of the UHD standards, the latest developments in imaging technology, and new functions in the image processing system for a higher dynamic range in live applications.
  • 11:45 a.m. – Chuck Meyer, chief technology officer, production, Grass Valley, will present a session entitled “Scaling UHD Live Production Workflow with Mezzanine Compression.” The session will cover increasing bandwidth requirements of UHDTV and how mezzanine compression is poised to provide scalability with the low latency, low power and minimal computing resources requirements that are essential for affordable live production.
  • 2:45 p.m. – Chuck Meyer, chief technology officer, production, Grass Valley,  will co-present a session entitled “Journey of 9’s – High Availability for IP-Based Production Systems.” The session will compare and contrast characteristics of SDI routers with that of IP routers, as well as how properly designed and deployed IP networks can provide five nines of availability and the use of application level protocols like SMPTE 2022-7 can improve the overall availability of the system.

On Thursday, October 29 at 4:00 p.m., Sara Kudrle, product marketing manager of infrastructure, monitoring and control, Grass Valley,  will chair a session entitled “Media Workflows: Automated Techniques for Quality, Captions and Ad Insertions – Can They Work?” The session will cover automated techniques designed to increase quality and correctness of video and audio, ensuring timely captioning and simplifying ad insertion.

Kudrle will also be one of 15 Motion-Imaging Technology Industry Leaders elevated to SMPTE Fellow status at a Fellows luncheon on Wednesday, October 28 during the event. This honor is conferred on individuals who have, through their proficiency and contributions to the industries, attained an outstanding rank among members of the Society. She will also be recognized as a Fellow during the SMPTE Honors and Awards Ceremony held Thursday evening.
