Evertz Launches ASPEN Input HEVC/H264 Software Defined Encoder

Evertz has launched the 3482TXE Software Defined Hardware Accelerated Encoder. Based on the industry leading 3480TXE, the 3482TXE adds support for ASPEN inputs/outputs and 4K HEVC encoding.

3482TXEAs facilities are now migrating to an all IP infrastructure, the need to support uncompressed over IP inputs is now essential for encoders. ASPEN (Adaptive Sample Picture Encapsulation) is a standards-based, open format that moves uncompressed Ultra HD, 3G, HD, and SD signals over MPEG-2 transport streams (ISO/IEC 13818-1). ASPEN provides a framework for transporting separated video, audio, and metadata as independent IP multicast streams.

Comprised of an all software stack with very select hardware acceleration, the 3482TXE provides the highest video quality and density without compromising flexibility which is crucial at this point with technologies being finalized.

“As we are at the beginning of 4K/UHD distribution, there are technologies that are currently being finalized (High Dynamic Range for example), and therefore a software defined product becomes a must,” said Abdullah Merei, Product Manager Compression Systems at Evertz.
