JMI Sports Names George Perry Chief Revenue Officer of Penn Sports Properties

JMI Sports has named George Perry chief revenue officer of Penn Sports Properties, the new multimedia rights holder for the University of Pennsylvania’s Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics (Penn Athletics) and The Penn Relays. Perry has more than 20 years of experience developing strategic partnerships between professional and amateur teams, leagues, athletes, governing bodies, and world-renowned brands. He also was a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, earning a Master of Business Administration from The Wharton School and a Master of Arts in international studies from the School of Arts and Sciences.

Penn Athletics recently announced JMI Sports as its multimedia rights holder. Commencing on June 1, 2016, the 10-year agreement includes rights to Penn Athletics, The Penn Relays, and Penn Campus Recreation. Operating as Penn Sports Properties, JMI Sports seeks to maximize the value of Penn’s marketing assets while developing valuable relationships with sponsors, fans, alumni, and students.

Perry’s most recent role was as senior director of global corporate channel sales and strategic partnerships for Rosetta Stone in Arlington, VA. He also worked as director of partnership and event marketing for XM Satellite Radio and director of event and sponsorship marketing for Visa International. For each of these companies, he developed and implemented key partnerships with major sports properties including the NFL, MLB, NASCAR, PGA TOUR, USOC, Pan American Games, Power Five athletic conferences, and numerous universities.

“George has proven successful in building strategic partnerships, advancing marquee brands and implementing world-class promotions,” said Tom Stultz, president of JMI Sports. “He is a terrific addition to the JMI Sports team and a valuable asset to Penn.”

In addition to his corporate experience, Perry has led sales and marketing efforts for two pro sports teams, as the vice president of strategic marketing for the Washington Redskins and senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Washington Freedom Women’s Professional Soccer team.

“I am thrilled to have the opportunity to combine my experience leveraging sports properties to market brands with my experience marketing teams to create win-win partnerships,” Perry said. “And to do so at my alma mater is truly an honor.”

Perry earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame. He then served in the U.S. Navy for six years as a surface warfare officer and foreign exchange officer, before attending the University of Pennsylvania for graduate studies. In addition to his full-time job, Perry has also been an adjunct professor in the Sports Industry Management master’s program at Georgetown University since 2009.
