Kenny Bonzon of the Dallas Mavericks Passes Away

Kenneth “Kenny” Bonzon, who called the Dallas Mavericks home for nearly 20 years, passed away last week. He is survived by his wife Denise, who he met in 1995, sister Christine, brother Mark, mother- and father-in-law Alvis Sr. and Dorothy Polk, six brothers-in-law, seven sisters-in-law, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Kenny Bonzon of the Dallas Mavericks died last week.

Bonzon joined the Dallas Mavericks in 1997 after answering a small help wanted ad in the Dallas Morning News. He had no idea that the job was with the Mavericks, but upon getting hired as the team’s IT director he soon realized he was working a dream job. He soon excelled and became one of the most trusted authorities within the organization and the league and was promoted to CTO in 2005 and also was named VP, Technology.

When Mark Cuban bought the team in 2000, Bonzon’s role expanded into the cutting edge of sports technology and marketing and he was a leader on projects in all aspects of the Dallas Mavericks’ business. His business-side responsibilities include being the director of digital marketing and social media. He was also in charge of the team’s ticketing systems, business analytics, sales tools and all inter-office networks that make the Mavericks tick on a daily basis.

On the basketball side, Bonzon has helped develop video analytic systems that break down a player’s performance, as well as player tracking applications that record their physical output. He has also helped develop video review systems and real time in-game scoring systems.

A true techy, when he got his hands on a car, motorcycle, or gadget he would read the manual from cover to cover and also loved taking things apart and putting them back together again.

Bonzon was born on December 27, 1965 in Flushing, Queens, and was the second of three children born to Milton and Dorcas Bonzon. He was preceded in death by his parents.
