New NBA League Pass Tier Allows Subscribers To Experience In-Arena Action During Breaks

Under-the-hood streaming support from iStreamPlanet bolsters quality

With the new season just days away, NBA Digital has unveiled updates for its out-of-market live-streaming service, NBA League Pass. New this year is a premium subscription package that will allow viewers to watch in-arena coverage that continues through breaks in the action.

Instead of breaking away from coverage for ads or title card, subscribers to this tier will be able to stay right in the arena throughout commercial breaks and experience everything that’s going on the arena. From team huddles to live entertainment and more, NBA is looking to further present the complete experience of being at a game.

Live-video-streaming quality was also under the microscope internally this offseason, and technology provider iStreamPlanet (partially owned by NBA Digital parent Turner) has boosted the service by implementing accelerated delivery time for live game-video feeds within the product.

Special features returning this year include virtual reality, NBA Mobile View (which debuted last year, bringing a zoomed-in, tighter shot of the action suited to smaller mobile devices), Team Pass (which allows subscribers to sign up to watch one out-of-market team’s games), and Single-Game offerings.

NBA League Pass will be available across 19 platforms at the start of this season, including TV, desktops, tablets, and mobile phones. Various connected devices are also compatible, such as PlayStation4 and PlayStation3, Xbox One, Apple TV, Samsung Smart TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku.
