Univision Deportes Secures Three-Year Rights Deal With Fox Deportes for Top German Soccer League

Univision Deportes has finalized a three-year sublicensing deal with Fox Deportes for Spanish-language rights to matches from Germany’s top soccer league, Bundesliga. With some matches having already aired on Univision networks this year – reaching more than 5 million total viewers – Univision Deportes is now scheduled to air three matches per week across UDN (Univision Deportes Network) and broadcast network UniMás.

This includes matches from European powerhouses Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Bayern Munich, with global superstars such as Mario Götze, Manuel Nuer and Arjen Robben; as well as iconic players from the Americas including James Rodriguez, Marco Fabian, Arturo Vidal, and the U.S. Soccer’s rising star Christian Pulisic.

“Univision Deportes’ promise has always been to bring our fanáticos the best and greatest soccer leagues across the world,” says Juan Carlos Rodriguez, president Univision Deportes. “The acquisition of this package of Bundesliga rights from Fox Deportes is a key addition to our growing European soccer lineup. The level of play from this league is spectacular, and having games from teams like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in our portfolio is the type of programming our viewers expect to see from Univision Deportes.”

Recently, the November 1 match on UniMás between Hertha Berlin and Bayern Munich was the most-viewed Bundesliga match on any network, regardless of language, in the current Bundesliga season among Adults 18-49. In addition to sharing the Spanish-language Bundesliga rights with Fox Deportes, including bringing more than 20 matches to UniMás – the most from the top German soccer league to ever air on a U.S. broadcast network – Univision Deportes will telecast a weekly preview show on UDN, while also providing fans a total recap of the week’s matches on Monday evenings with a new show called ‘Somos Bundesliga.’

Univision Deportes also has engaged in a content partnership with Bayern Munich, which recently opened an office in the U.S., to bring behind the scenes access and regular interviews with key players, particularly Latin ones, to viewers.

“We’re excited that the arrangement between Fox and Univision Deportes will help expand the Bundesliga footprint,” says Jörg Daubitzer, CEO of Bundesliga International. “Through their agreement, we are able to showcase and elevate our team roster to the unique and passionate audience Univision Deportes reaches.”

Fox Deportes maintains Spanish-language rights for all remaining Bundesliga matches including the Bayern Munich-Borussia Dortmund matchup and the German Super Cup.

Univision Deportes is home to some of the best live soccer broadcasts including Liga MX, MLS, Copa MX, CONCACAF Champions League, Bundesliga, the US Men’s National Team and the Mexican National Team. In 2018 Univision Deportes will also add the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League to its roster of marquee club soccer tournaments.
