SVG On Demand: ChyronHego CEO Marco Lopez Talks Prudential Center, DFL’s Sports Innovation 2018

The company applies broadcast technologies to in-venue graphics

ChyronHego has been extremely busy throughout the first half of 2018, playing an integral role in a variety of sports-related projects and partnerships across sports broadcast, stadium production and in-venue experience, and sports technology.

The company recently partnered with the New Jersey Devils, EVS, and Trans-Lux to deploy its Unified Stadium concept at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, which upgraded its videoboard to the largest in the world prior to the 2017-18 NHL campaign. Teaming with EVS and Trans-Lux, ChyronHego went beyond simple CG- and clip-server control with this project, enabling the Devils video team to apply real-time, broadcast-style graphic elements to any screen, board, or other digital display throughout the venue via ChyronHego’s Click Effects Prime platform.

In addition, ChyronHego took part in this month’s Sports Innovation 2018 event put on by the DFL at ESPIRIT Arena Düsseldorf, Germany. The DFL rolled out a youth-league team to play at the stadium to allow technology partners to demonstrate their latest sports-coverage technologies. Among ChyronHego’s demonstrations was the use of its TRACAB real-time player-tracking technology and Click Effects Prime platform to drive dynamic virtual-ad insertion on the ribbon displays surrounding the pitch. TRACAB allows sponsorship elements to move with the action to keep the ad in the frame.

SVG sat down with ChyronHego CEO Marco Lopez, who took the helm five months ago, to discuss the Prudential Center project and how strategic partnerships like it can benefit the larger live–sports-production community, the company’s experience at Sports Innovation 2018 and the technologies it demonstrated, and much more.
