NBC Sports Washington Hires Matt Volk as VP of Content Strategy, Nina Mandell as Director of Digital Media & Managing Editor

NBC Sports Washington has announced two new additions to the team:

Matt Volk joined NBC Sports Washington (NBCSW) as Vice President of Content Strategy, overseeing programming planning, video and audio production, and digital and social media content and platforms. He reports to SVP & GM Damon Phillips.

Volk joins NBCSW from ESPN, where he spent the last 15 years in strategic content, acquisition, and planning roles. He most recently served as director of programming and acquisitions, overseeing content strategy across linear, digital, audio, print, and social platforms. Prior to ESPN, Volk spent three seasons as a coaching and football operations assistant for the New England Patriots. A native of Wayland, Mass., he graduated from Bowdoin College in Maine.

Nina Mandell was named to the newly created role of Director of Digital Media & Managing Editor for NBCSW, leading website, mobile and social content. She reports to Volk.

Mandell spent the last five years in leadership positions at USA TODAY Sports’ For The Win, most recently as managing editor. Previously, she was an editor for Yahoo’s ThePostGame.com and spent 2.5 years as Sports Illustrated. She also gained experience as a sports reporter for Buzzfeed and writer/multimedia producer for the New York Daily News. A native of Baltimore County, Mandell graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism.
