SVG On Demand: How ATSC 3.0 Could Revolutionize the Live-TV Industry

At TranSPORT 2018, Madeleine Noland provided a look at what ATSC 3.0 will mean for the industry

At SVG’s annual TranSPORT event at the Microsoft Technology Center in New York City on Oct. 16, Madeleine Noland – the Chair of ATSC Technology Group 3 and LG Electronics’ Senior Advisor on Technology and Standards – presented a whirlwind tour of the latest advancements in ATSC 3.0.

ATSC 3.0 is the next generation of the ATSC standards for television broadcasting created by the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) comprising more than 20 standards and several best practices. ASTC 3.0 is designed to offer support for newer technologies, including HEVC for video channels of up to 2160p 4K resolution at 120 frames per second, wide color gamut, HDR, Dolby AC-4 and MPEG-H 3D Audio, datacasting capabilities, more robust mobile television support, targeted advertising, and finer public alerting.
