ONE Championship Partners With TV Tokyo; Hideyuki Hata Named as President in Japan

The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship (ONE), has just announced an exclusive partnership in Japan with TV Tokyo, one of Japan’s largest national Free-To-Air television broadcasters. In addition, ONE has announced the latest addition to its executive leadership team.

The multi-year partnership will have TV Tokyo broadcast a full offering of ONE Championship content to its viewers weekly, including both live and non-live content.

TV Tokyo will serve as ONE Championship’s official broadcaster in Japan, and together with its group, will also promote ONE Championship content on their various digital platforms including BS TV Tokyo (a nationwide broadcaster via satellite).

TV Tokyo began broadcasting in 1964 and is celebrating its 55th year anniversary in 2019. It is known primarily for airing Japan’s top animated programs, but has also shown support for global sports, with programs covering the Olympics, baseball, football, table tennis, golf, judo, and boxing, among others. TV TOKYO and its group are thrilled to be partnering with ONE Championship to grow and nurture the martial arts industry in Japan, while bringing ONE Championship’s unique brand of world-class entertainment to Japanese fans.

ONE Championship, the world’s largest martial arts organization, hosts bouts across all styles of martial arts such as Muay Thai, kickboxing, karate, kung fu, silat, sanda, lethwei, mixed martial arts, taekwondo, submission grappling, and more. It is home to some of the biggest names in martial arts, including Japanese superstars Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki, Yoshihiro Akiyama, Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito, Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi, and Koji “The Commander” Ando, among others.

Hideyuki “Andy” Hata has been named President of ONE Championship, Japan. Hata will be responsible for overseeing operations in Japan, driving development, and growth across all key metrics.

Hata was previously the President of Nielsen Sports, North Asia, where he is responsible for all of Nielsen Sports’ business activities in Japan, South Korea, and Mainland China. Prior to joining Nielsen Sports, Hata led a number of global projects with Sony Corporation and was part of Sony’s global partnership team with FIFA where he spearheaded their global activation strategy for all FIFA tournaments, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Hata owns a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Meiji University.

Hata is also a recognizable figure and respected voice in the Japanese sports industry, often speaking on television as well as at industry forums and events.

With ONE Championship, Hata will be responsible for driving day-to-day operations, focused specifically on Japan. Hata’s global domain expertise in both business development and sports will play a vital role as he oversees all areas of the business, including the execution of key strategic projects, strengthening relationships and partnerships, growth and expansion, and daily operations.

ONE Championship is set to enter the Japanese market in 2019 with its first event ONE: A New Era taking place on Sunday, 31 March at the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. The second event, ONE: Greatness Unleashed, will be held in October 2019.
