NBC Rolling Out Super-Bowl-Like Studio Presence in KC for NFL Divisional Playoff Game

Special 90-minute Football Night in America will be hosted from two sets at Arrowhead

It has been nearly a year since the NBC aired Super Bowl LII, but the Peacock is in a Super Bowl state of mind this weekend in Kansas City. On Saturday, it will roll out a special 90-minute pregame edition of Football Night in America from two sets at Arrowhead Stadium in advance of the Chiefs-Colts AFC Divisional Playoff showdown.

Host Mike Tirico; analysts Tony Dungy, Rodney Harrison, and Chris Simms; and NFL Insider Mike Florio will be onsite for NBC’s pregame studio show. To capture the famous Kansas City fan excitement and tailgating that occurs at Arrowhead, the team will begin the show at an outside set before moving inside the stadium as kickoff approaches.

The 12-camera show (including two jibs) will also offer reports from both locker rooms (as NBC has done for Super Bowls in the past), player or coach pregame interviews, and numerous preproduced pieces.

In addition, Paul Burmeister will report from the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to preview Saturday night’s Cowboys-Rams NFC Divisional Playoff.

Between the game production and the expanded onsite studio production, NBC’s presence in Kansas City will include about 80 crew members and a total of six mobile units.

“I really want our opening report to be like … a Super Bowl pregame show, where we have a reporter outside the Colts locker room, a reporter outside the Chiefs locker room, people on the field, people outside the stadium where the fans are,” NBC’s Football Night in America producer Rob Hyland told the Kansas City Star this week. “Really give the viewer the best seat in the house and let everyone know that we have every aspect of this game and this event covered.”

Hyland will be joined at the front bench by director Mike Sheehan for the expanded FNIA pregame show, and Executive Producer Fred Gaudelli and director Drew Esocoff will handle the Colts-Chiefs game.
