MLB 2019 Preview: NBC Sports Philadelphia Debuts Studio Ahead of Phillies Opening Day

3,600-sq.-ft. facility boasts two massive video monitors and 120 LED tiles

On this Opening Day, expectations are high for the new-look Philadelphia Phillies. So it’s only fitting that the city’s regional sports network is opening the new baseball season with an entirely fresh look of its own.

NBC Sports Philadelphia debuted a new studio on Thursday just in time for the start of the Philadelphia Phillies season.

On Thursday, NBC Sports Philadelphia opened a 3,600-sq.-ft. studio that will serve as the new home for all of its studio programming, including pre/postgame coverage of all its professional teams: the Eagles, 76ers, Flyers, and, yes, Bryce Harper and the Phillies.

With design work by Jack Morton Worldwide and fabrication by blackwalnut, the new studio is a tech haven, boasting a 23-ft.-wide LED monitor positioned behind the primary anchor-desk position. There’s also a 16- x 9-ft. screen in a secondary shooting position, which will be used as a “demo area” for breakdown of video by on-air analysts. This space also has a 15- x 8-ft. floor made of 45 LED tiles and four additional vertical video monitors.

The 3,600-sq.-ft. studio space was designed by Jack Morton Worldwide and fabricated by blackwalnut.

“Our new studios feature the latest in interactive technology, which will allow our hosts, analysts, and insiders to engage with each other and Philly sports fans like never before,” NBC Sports Philadelphia President Brian Monihan said in an official release. “This allows us to showcase our content in new and innovative ways that allow us to drive our business forward, while also doubling down on our commitment to the fans we serve.”

This studio, located inside the Wells Fargo Center, is just the latest in a series of renovations at NBC Sports Philadelphia, which continues to grow in a thriving sports market. NBC Sports has made a multimillion-dollar investment in renovating its technical facilities and other operations.

There are also plans to build another secondary studio at the RSN’s primary facility later this year.
